My car was keyed, a few surface scratches that did not go through to the metal on the passenger side. However, although it's an 18 year old car, I have keep it garaged or covered at work throughout the ten years in my possession – in perfect condition. The scratches were not visible unless you were looking in certain lighting, at a certain angle. To me, it was not perfect anymore so I searched for the best shop. Based on reviews and high-end cars I saw there and also the explanation of the process, I chose Color Recon. This choice was against my wife's advice as what she saw from the get-go was glibness. Juan dealt directly with my insurance company telling me he would get the maximum amount for 'my' benefit, and constantly berated them calling them cheap and unwilling to pay. Three different glass companies sent by my insurance company to remove the windshield and replace it after painting refused to deal with this shop. The third one did remove the windshield but refused to go back to deal in any way with this shop. My wife purchased a new windshield from Lexus and personally delivered it. Juan was not thrilled, to say the least, stating he would now have to be responsible for it until it was mounted and advising her to get a lawyer and sue the insurance company. When I called – now a month and a half later – to check on status, I was told it would take a week to put the car back together. After seven weeks, I finally got a call that the car was ready and when my wife went to pick it up and gave him the check, he stormed to the door holding it open for her to leave and asked someone to open the gate for him to store my car, stating she had been told no personal checks were accepted. She had not, in fact, been told. He stated that he knew she would walk out the door and immediately put a stop-payment on the check. She asked if he accepted another form of payment and was able to make the payment. All in all, between Juan's invoice of over $5000, new windshield and rental for seven weeks, the cost was over $7,400. Book value on this car is $4813. Workmanship: While keyed scratches were now gone and the paintless dent removal did remove most dings, the paint on the door and front bumper was not perfectly matched. Also, the door now has a shimmy when opening and closing it which was not there when car was taken in. There is a visible flaw on the trim and the tint on one of the back windows was removed. Juan refuses to take responsibility stating insurance company did not pay for new trim, perfect matching is impossible because entire car was not painted, doesn't know what happened to door and tint was glass company's responsibility. It's interesting that I could not leave this review on Color Recon's website as it could not "verify me as a customer". I would definitely NOT recommend this shop but would urge it's owner to take a class in people skills.
Dear Mr. Soto, I remember when you came asking for an estimate I was very concise and clear about the expectations for your vehicle’s repair. As I told you then; we at Color Recon strive to provide the best results as best humanly possible. Please see the following video that explain in details how expensive painting a car correctly could be... https://youtu.be/acvHQ9uHK3w That was the case with your 1999 Lexus that came with several areas of damage needing repair. I was very specific in pointing to you how expensive it would be to refinish the whole side of the vehicle (specially a 3 stage pearl color finish like yours) and my suggestion was to use your insurance as the best approach to properly repair your vehicle. Additionally, as you know, you know your insurer) declined to pay for my certified glass installer and they decided to send their own low cost technicians to remove & replace the glass. They cracked the windshield damaged your your tint on the side glass and the paint of the car and did not want to take responsibility for fixing it. Even though it was not our responsibility we repaired the damage to the paint and removed the damage window tint they caused at no additional cost to you. Regarding your door’s misalignment. These vehicles are known for having very heavy doors that overtime begin to sag and become misaligned. Your 18 year old Lexus appears to have the original hinges. In our ongoing efforts to please you we will replace the door’s hinges at a discounted labor rate. I have provided a couple I-Net links to see the commonality and difficulty your door poses as well as the process to change the average hinge pins. https://youtu.be/GYw8qdfF-yE https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-1st-gen-1992-2000/38955-problems-with-driver-s-door-hinge-mechanism.html In final, Color Recon did everything we were asked to do and more and did so in a high quality manner. We regret that you are not among the thousands of other Color Recon customers who are completely satisfied with our efforts and we stand ready to resolve your remaining issues however we may.
